The court has sentenced Karlijn van R. (37) and her friend Chantal S. (42) for the abuse of two children, who were 6 and 9 years old at the time. Karlijn van R. received a prison sentence of fourteen months, of which four months are suspended. Chantal S. received a sentence of twelve months, of which six months are suspended, with the judge taking her diminished responsibility into account. The abuse took place following Van R.'s separation in 2023 and included physical violence, withholding food and water, and the imprisonment of the children. The children were even forced to sit in their own urine or feces. The women must pay compensation to the victims. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) originally demanded two years in prison for both women due to the severity of the crimes and the constant communication via thousands of WhatsApp messages regarding the situation.
