As the trial of Yorgen Fenech for the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia entered its third day on Friday, her sister Mandy Mallia provided a deeply personal account of the family's prolonged suffering. In a Facebook post, Mallia wrote that their mother, Rose Vella, died in 2023 without seeing justice served, after suffering a stroke in 2019 and remaining a constant presence at court hearings and vigils. Their father, in his late eighties, continues to follow every detail of the case online, having spent years sitting in court "inches away from [their] eldest daughter's assorted murderers."
