Mzoli Ngcawuzele, the visionary founder of the internationally acclaimed Mzoli’s Place in Gugulethu, Cape Town, has passed away at his home over the weekend. Ngcawuzele is remembered not only as a successful entrepreneur but also as a pivotal figure who significantly boosted township tourism and generated economic opportunities for hundreds. His establishment became a cultural landmark, attracting global visitors and fostering a vibrant ecosystem of small businesses within the community, including tour guides and vendors. Nombeko Lephuthing, a beneficiary of Ngcawuzele’s vision, became a tour guide due to the influx of tourists at Mzoli’s Place. Ngcawuzele was also recognized for his profound generosity, assisting those in need and supporting local contractors, athletes, and aspiring businesspeople, thereby placing Gugulethu on the international map.
