A life-sized chessboard has officially reopened on Frederiksplein in Amsterdam, marking its return to the city after years of absence. This initiative is a pilot project, with a decision on its permanent placement to be made after one year. Previously, a similar board at Max Euweplein was removed due to complaints from residents and businesses, and a subsequent attempt to relocate it to Museumplein also failed. A dedicated group of chess players, who had advocated for the board's return, successfully proposed its placement on Frederiksplein through the Centrum Begroot initiative, gathering enough signatures to realize the project.
