SLASSCOM, in partnership with BeyondOne, has officially launched a national virtual internship platform designed to bridge the employability skill gap within Sri Lanka’s IT and BPM industry. Chairperson Shehani Senevirathne emphasized that the initiative provides structured, industry-aligned opportunities, fostering stronger collaboration between academia and industry while ensuring equitable access to practical learning. Director of Operations Bimal Gunapala highlighted a critical problem: the decline in physical placements has pressured universities to make internships optional, which risks leaving graduates under-skilled. This digital intervention addresses the issue by connecting students with actual companies, supervisors, and projects. By maintaining digital access to professional experience, SLASSCOM aims to develop future-ready digital talent and ensure the long-term sustainability of the country's digital ecosystem, preventing the widening of the existing skill gap among new graduates.
