NCOP chairperson raises alarm over unequal support from Parliament 15h ago

National Council of Provinces (NCOP) Chairperson Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane has expressed significant concerns regarding the unequal support provided by Parliament's administration to the NCOP compared to the National Assembly. During a meeting of the Joint Standing Committee on Financial Management of Parliament, Mtshweni-Tsipane highlighted ongoing issues with committee work and the provisioning of resources, stating that improvements have not been observed despite continuous efforts to address the disparity. Secretary to Parliament (STP) Xolile George acknowledged the criticism and pledged to ensure fair support for both Houses, but NCOP members, including ANC MP Bheki Radebe and committee co-chairperson Soviet Lekganyane, corroborated Mtshweni-Tsipane's observations, citing specific examples like communication services and public participation, and demanding a clear plan for improvement.
