Nearly 24 hours after the blackout, the electrical system is only interconnected from Havana to Sancti Spíritus 07.07.2026

Nearly 24 hours after the collapse of the National Electrical System (SEN), the electrical interconnection in Cuba is currently limited from Havana to Sancti Spíritus. While the UN General Assembly debates the need to end the U.S. economic blockade, with 136 votes in favor, Cuba faces an extreme energy crisis. The Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O Levy, reported that the objective is to reach Felton province. The situation is critical in provinces such as Villa Clara, with only 38 MW available, and in the east, where Granma and Las Tunas are operating with minimal micro-systems of 7 and 12 MW, respectively. President Miguel Díaz-Canel attributed the crisis to the fuel shortage caused by the U.S. blockade. Workers are attempting to restore priority circuits, such as hospitals and water pumping, amidst a complex technical recovery.
