NEBE Announces Successful Conclusion of Ethiopia’s 7th General Election 02.06.2026

The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has declared the conclusion of Ethiopia's 7th General Election, held on June 1, 2026. NEBE Chairperson Melatwork Hailu confirmed the voting process ended successfully nationwide, despite exceptionally long queues observed in Addis Ababa. While ballot counting is ongoing in several regions, results finalized at the polling station level have been posted publicly, and constituency-level aggregation is underway. The election, considered one of Africa's largest democratic exercises this year with over 54 million registered voters, has been praised by the government and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed as a peaceful, historic, and successful demonstration of civic responsibility and commitment to democracy. The NEBE is verifying and investigating reported complaints, assuring the public that remaining electoral stages will follow legal and transparent procedures.
