A 71-year-old Dutch man died in an avalanche near Fiss in Tirol, Austria, while skiing off-piste with his 41-year-old son and another 34-year-old Dutch man. The group triggered a 50-meter-wide avalanche, which swept them away. The son, equipped with an avalanche transceiver, freed himself and alerted rescuers. He also located and dug out the 34-year-old. The 71-year-old was found by an avalanche dog after an hour and, despite resuscitation efforts by emergency doctors, was pronounced dead. The two younger men received medical attention. The article also notes over thirty avalanches were reported in Austria on the same day, resulting in the deaths of two Germans in separate incidents.
