Dutch national Jos R., 77, is facing trial in Thailand for allegedly recruiting teenagers for sexual exploitation. Thai authorities, alerted by the Dutch foundation Free a Girl, conducted an undercover operation that culminated in his arrest in October. During the operation, Jos R. was apprehended while allegedly delivering two 15-year-old boys and a 17-year-old girl to a hotel for 65 euros. He had a prior arrest in Thailand in 2018 for suspected human trafficking and pedophilia, from which he reportedly escaped through bribery. Jos R. is currently in pre-trial detention in Bangkok and faces charges of human trafficking and child abuse, with potential sentences ranging from 8 to 15 years per victim, possibly leading to a significantly longer sentence if convicted.
