Netanyahu orders talks with Lebanon, disarmament of Hezbollah among demands 09.04.2026

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered his cabinet to begin direct negotiations with Lebanon as soon as possible, with the primary objectives being the disarmament of Hezbollah and the establishment of peaceful relations. This directive comes amidst escalating Israeli strikes in Lebanon, which have resulted in over 1,500 deaths, including 130 children, and displaced over a million people since March 2. Netanyahu's statement follows a call from Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam to his Pakistani counterpart for a ceasefire. Despite a recent US-Iran truce, both the US and Israel maintain that Lebanon was not included in the ceasefire agreement, contradicting initial statements from Pakistan's Prime Minister. Israel launched its heaviest attack on Lebanon in nearly 40 years on Wednesday, firing 100 missiles in 10 minutes and reportedly killing over 200 people in a single day.
