Neue Leitlinie Sechs Monate Stillen nun auch in Deutschland empfohlen 20.02.2026

Germany has updated its breastfeeding guidelines, now recommending exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of an infant's life, a shift from the previous recommendation of introducing solids at four months. Experts also advise mothers to continue breastfeeding for at least one year, with the gradual introduction of solid foods. These recommendations are based on a comprehensive review of 30 research outcomes concerning the health of mothers and children, identifying benefits such as reduced ear infections, gastrointestinal issues, and lower risks of leukemia, autism, and ADHD in infants. For mothers, extended breastfeeding is linked to a significant decrease in breast cancer risk, potentially by 25-40%, and can also positively influence postpartum depression. The guideline, developed by 26 professional societies, emphasizes that these are recommendations for healthcare professionals to guide mothers individually, respecting their ultimate choice.
