Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced on June 20 that Petronas has secured the right to develop two major blocks in one of the world’s largest gas fields in Turkmenistan. The agreement was signed during Anwar’s visit to Turkmenistan, following engagements in Russia. Anwar described the deal as a diplomatic endorsement, showing international confidence in Malaysia’s stability, unity, and technical expertise. Petronas has operated in Turkmenistan for nearly three decades, and Anwar personally pushed for the expansion during the Turkmen President’s visit in December 2024.
