New "Building Type E" Planned: Construction Without Frills 07.07.2026

With "Building Type E," the Federal Government is planning a new concept to make residential construction in Germany faster and more cost-effective. The goal of the initiative is to create a legal framework that allows developers and specialist planners to deliberately forgo non-safety-related standards and certain DIN standards. Federal Minister of Justice Stefanie Hubig emphasized that clear contractual regulations should minimize liability risks for architects and construction companies when they deviate from the "recognized rules of technology." SPD Federal Minister for Housing Verena Hubertz clarified that this is not a rigid building class, but rather a flexible planning concept intended not to restrict creativity. Experts such as Dietmar Walberg additionally call for a greater streamlining of requirements and an adjustment of subsidy programs to effectively promote the construction of affordable housing.
