A tragic accident occurred at the scene in Žirmūnai, resulting in the deaths of two young people: a 21-year-old passenger and a 19-year-old girl. City surveillance cameras captured that the cause of the incident was street racing taking place on this street. An out-of-control BMW struck a pole on a bend, after which the car caught fire. Witnesses claim that people attempted to pull the victims from the flaming front of the vehicle, but medical aid could not assist the deceased. The injured girl, who was the driver, was taken to the hospital with injuries sustained from the impact. According to police data, she tested positive for 0.58 per mille of alcohol in her blood. It is emphasized that this 19-year-old driver obtained her driver's license only this month, and the accident occurred due to reckless racing behavior on the street.
