The commune of San Carlos, in the Ñuble region, is undergoing a significant urban transformation with the construction of the new shopping center named Barrio Sur. The project is located on the grounds of the former Arrocera Tucapel, a facility that operated between 1945 and 2017. Spanning 15,000 square meters, the project includes 5,000 square meters of built area, featuring a 400-square-meter medical center and the preservation of original beams to honor the industrial heritage. Businessmen Julio Roberts Maturana and Patricio Lozano are leading this initiative, which will feature operators such as the El Trébol supermarket, a pharmacy, and Papa John's. The opening is scheduled for late 2026, aiming to consolidate a commercial hub that will also be bolstered by the nearby construction of a SuperBodega aCuenta on the former Anasac grounds.
