New NATO Estimate: Czechia to Spend 2.01 Percent of GDP on Defense This Year 07.07.2026

According to the latest estimates published by Reuters on Tuesday ahead of the planned alliance summit in Ankara, a significant shift in defense spending by NATO member states is expected. The Alliance's new target, set for the middle of the next decade, aims for a level of 3.5 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). According to these updated figures, five member states are expected to exceed this ambitious threshold as early as this year, including the Baltic states, Poland, and Greece. The Czech Republic is also moving forward as part of this global trend, with estimates suggesting it will spend 2.01 percent of its GDP on defense this year. This development reflects the growing need to strengthen security within the alliance in response to the current geopolitical situation in Europe and the world.
