A recent report by the Observatoire des inégalités, utilizing 2023 figures from INSEE, reveals that nearly five million people, or 7.5% of the French population, are considered "rich." This threshold is defined as earning at least twice the median monthly income. For a single person, this means an after-tax income of €4,292, for a couple €6,438, and for a family with two teenage children, €10,730. The study found that 73% of these high-earners are over 45, with 74% being senior executives and 13% business owners. Notably, 35% of the wealthiest reside in the Paris metropolitan area, with communes like Neuilly-sur-Seine and Divonne-les-Bains exhibiting particularly high concentrations of wealthy residents.
