New Rule: Mandatory Camera for Car Drivers 07.07.2026

Starting July 7, new requirements will be introduced within the EU through the General Safety Regulation (GSR2), meaning all newly registered cars must be equipped with advanced safety systems. The purpose of this EU initiative is to save lives by preventing an estimated 25,000 deaths and 140,000 injuries by the year 2038. The new regulations include requirements for advanced driver distraction warning (ADDW), where a camera or sensor monitors the driver's gaze to provide warnings in cases of inattention, as well as improved automatic emergency braking that can better identify pedestrians and cyclists. Despite the safety benefits, there are concerns regarding data privacy and who is granted access to the collected information, particularly concerning international manufacturers. This change primarily affects entry-level car models that previously lacked these technical features.
