New social features further Plex’s evolution from media server business 03.06.2026

Plex is enhancing its platform with a suite of new social features, signaling a significant evolution beyond its origins as a media server business. As of today, users can create and share personalized lists of movies, shows, and episodes. The company plans to roll out further enhancements later this year, including the ability to import lists from other streaming services, react to others' lists, and launch a community forum for direct discussion on content. Additionally, Plex will introduce "Match Scores" to predict viewing preferences and expand user expression through emoji reactions, image responses to reviews, and a "Follow Anything" feature for alerts on content and talent. These updates aim to unify entertainment discovery within a fragmented streaming environment, building on Plex's existing user engagement of over 100 million monthly watching decisions and 45 million created watchlists.
