Starting Monday, July 7, 2026, the Wegovy pill, manufactured by Novo Nordisk, is becoming available in select UK pharmacies. This medication is the first GLP-1 pill for weight loss approved by the UK’s medicines regulator, the MHRA. The treatment involves a dosage schedule starting at 1.5mg and increasing up to 25mg. According to a National Pharmacy Association survey, 76% of pharmacies expect a significant influx of new patients, while 49% report a surge in inquiries. While the pill offers an alternative for those avoiding injections, the NPA warns of a growing black market for counterfeit weight loss drugs. Olivier Picard, chairman of the NPA, emphasized that patients should only access the medication through regulated pharmacies following thorough consultations to avoid dangerous fake products.
