New York : La ville à l’arrêt, confrontée à la plus grande tempête de neige « de cette dernière décennie » 23.02.2026

New York City is facing its most significant snowstorm in a decade, prompting authorities to ban travel until Monday noon and mobilize extensive resources. Mayor Zohran Mamdani declared a state of emergency, with up to 70 centimeters of snow and winds of 80 km/h expected. The ban, effective Sunday at 9 PM, restricts most transportation, excluding essential workers and emergency travel. Schools will be closed Monday, a first in seven years for remote learning. This follows a severe cold snap in late January that caused numerous deaths. The United Nations headquarters in Manhattan will also close. Neighboring Boston anticipates 60 cm of snow, and the wider Northeast region is under blizzard warnings, with over 8,500 flights canceled and tens of thousands of homes experiencing power outages.
