New York City is experiencing a historic snowstorm, with snowfall beginning on February 23rd and causing widespread paralysis. Mayor Zohran Mamdani declared a citywide travel ban, effective from Sunday at 9 PM until Monday at noon, impacting most transportation except for essential workers and emergency services. The storm, described as the most significant in a decade, is expected to bring up to 70 centimeters of snow and wind gusts of 80 km/h, leading to thousands of flight cancellations and power outages across the Northeast. NYC Public Schools will be closed on Monday, a decision not seen in seven years, and the United Nations headquarters in Manhattan will also shut down. This is the second major winter event for Mayor Mamdani, following a cold snap in late January that caused at least 18 deaths in the city and over 100 nationwide.
