NGOs raise delayed justice concerns with EU's Rule of Law Commissioner 25.06.2026

Representatives from Aditus, Repubblika, and the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation met with EU Rule of Law Commissioner Michael McGrath to address systemic challenges in Malta’s democratic institutions. A primary concern was the inefficiency of the Maltese justice system, which NGOs described as excessively slow and costly for victims. They pointed to a persistent lack of court digitalisation, noting that Malta received specific EU funding for modernisation yet failed to implement it. The groups called for criminal case data to be included in the EU Justice Scoreboard to enable more effective external monitoring.
