Nigel Farage: Nigel Farage resigns – and immediately stands again 07.07.2026

Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party, announced his resignation as a Member of Parliament in an emotional speech on Tuesday afternoon. This move follows reports from the Sunday Times revealing close financial ties between Farage and a convicted betting fraudster. There is strong suspicion that he failed to properly declare substantial gifts and benefits in kind to Parliament. To preempt an impending parliamentary investigation and potential removal from office, Farage has vacated his seat in Westminster. At the same time, however, he announced that he will immediately stand again in the upcoming by-election to leave the decision directly to the voters. While his reputation as an anti-establishment politician suffers due to these scandals, established parties such as Labour and the Tories are using the situation to reposition themselves politically.
