EXCLUSIVE: Fresh Crisis Rocks NITR Kaduna As DG Allegedly Moves To Sack ICPC Witness Amid Corruption Probe 07.07.2026

A corruption and administrative crisis is unfolding at the Nigerian Institute for Trypanosomiasis Research (NITR) in Kaduna. Director-General Dr. Joachim Joseph Ajakaiye is accused of attempting to divert multi-million-naira project funds for the 2024 Disease Surveillance and Control Project into a private FCMB account controlled by his allies. In retaliation for resisting this illegal directive, senior research officer Dr. Rolayo T. Emmanuel, a key whistleblower, is facing a targeted campaign of harassment. Allegations include contradictory administrative orders, unlawful deployment of NSCDC personnel to block her access to the institute, and the circulation of falsified investigation reports to mislead oversight bodies. As the ICPC conducts a full-scale probe, staff and civil society groups are urgently calling for the suspension of the DG and the invocation of witness protection powers to safeguard Dr. Emmanuel and the institute's integrity.
