Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi between life and death 05.05.2026

Narges Mohammadi, winner of the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize and detained in Iran since December 2023, is in critical health, "between life and death," following emergency hospitalization in early May 2025. Her lawyer, Chirinne Ardakani, stated that the 54-year-old activist, transferred from Zanjan prison to a hospital, has experienced a "dramatic deterioration" marked by two instances of unconsciousness and a heart attack. She has lost 20 kg, is "unrecognizable," and is at risk of dying at any moment. Sentenced in February to seven and a half years in prison for her activism against the death penalty and the dress code, her supporters are calling for her transfer to Tehran for appropriate medical care and are urging French President Emmanuel Macron to take a firmer stance.
