A 84-year-old man from Pieve di Soligo, Treviso, faces a potential 16-year prison sentence for child pornography and sexual abuse committed against his grandchildren, who are under 10 years old. The prosecution requested this sentence during a preliminary hearing, despite the man opting for a reduced sentence trial. The investigation began after a tip-off from NCMEC, a US NGO specializing in online child exploitation, which led Europol and then the Treviso Postal Police to identify the seemingly unsuspicious retiree. The man, who allegedly lured his grandchildren into silence with gifts, is accused of at least ten incidents occurring between 2024 and 2025. The final decision on his fate will be made by the Venetian judge on June 17th.
