Starting March 1, 2026, French tobacconists will offer a range of new tobacco products, including cigars and rolling tobacco, as announced by customs. This introduction coincides with approximately 500 tobacco product references experiencing price changes, predominantly increases, as part of the government's strategy to combat smoking. While new products are entering the market, others will be removed from sale on the same date. Despite a continuous decrease in tobacco consumption in France, noted by the OFDT in May 2025, smoking remains the leading cause of preventable mortality, responsible for around 75,000 deaths annually, with a significant portion attributed to cancer.
