Runólfur Ólafsson, managing director of the Association of Icelandic Vehicle Owners (FÍB), says he is not surprised by the Competition Authority's discussion paper, which shows that oil companies have increased their margins by 25 to 50 percent in recent years. He points out that this is an old problem and refers to the famous Öskjuhlíð meetings from 30 years ago, where oil companies were alleged to have colluded on pricing. “Now people don’t need Öskjuhlíð to agree on something,” says Runólfur, describing the market as a classic oligopoly.
