NPA to refile case against JDA acting CEO Themba Mathibe 02.06.2026

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) intends to refile its case against Themba Mathibe, acting CEO of the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), after the Alexandra magistrate’s court struck it off the roll on Tuesday. The case involves R321,000 in cash discovered at Mathibe’s residence during a corruption probe into the JDA. Prosecutors assert Mathibe failed to provide a credible explanation for possessing the funds. While the NPA sought additional time to complete investigations, including the analysis of seized electronic devices, the defense argued against keeping the case active due to incomplete inquiries. The court agreed with the defense, removing the matter from the roll. The NPA is collaborating with police to expedite investigations for a swift re-enrollment, emphasizing that being struck off the roll is not an acquittal.
