NParks to relocate 5 endangered leopard cats in Changi to other suitable habitats in S'pore 03.06.2026

The National Parks Board (NParks) in Singapore plans to relocate five endangered leopard cats from the Changi area starting in the latter half of 2026 as part of a conservation initiative. A survey conducted by the Singapore Wildcat Action Group (SWAG) using camera traps confirmed the presence of two adult males, one adult female, and two juveniles in Changi since 2019. NParks, in consultation with SWAG and mammal researcher Marcus Chua, is identifying suitable habitats within Singapore’s nature reserves, considering ecological factors like forest cover and prey availability. The decision stems from concerns over the leopard cats' welfare due to nearby construction, roads, and a past roadkill incident, with the critically endangered species facing a population of fewer than 20 individuals on the mainland.
