Nursing regulator’s ‘failings’ to be probed during inquest into death of nurse Amelia Morten-Scott 1d ago

A coroner will investigate potential "failings" by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) that may have contributed to the death of 34-year-old nurse Amelia Morten-Scott, who died in October 2023. The inquest, to be held later this year by Somerset coroner Mr Stephen Covell, will examine the NMC's fitness to practice investigation into Ms Morten-Scott, which was ongoing at the time of her death. The scope of the inquest will include consideration of the NMC's actions and omissions, any delays in its investigation, and their potential impact on Ms Morten-Scott's mental state. This probe follows a 2022 independent investigation that found a "toxic" culture and "dysfunction" within the NMC, which regulates over 800,000 healthcare professionals in the UK.
