Officials lay out ICE's role at Los Angeles World Cup plans, announce boosted security for Iran games 03.06.2026

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna announced that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will have a presence at the World Cup games held at SoFi Stadium, but will not be actively detaining foreign travelers. This clarification comes amidst concerns from SoFi Stadium union workers who had filed a complaint regarding potential ICE targeting due to FIFA's accreditation process. Luna stated he was assured by Homeland Security that civil immigration enforcement would not occur at any games, though he acknowledged that federal agents will be present to ensure overall security. Additionally, Luna confirmed that enhanced staffing will be implemented for Iran's two scheduled games at SoFi Stadium due to the current global political climate. Eight World Cup matches are scheduled to take place at SoFi Stadium during the tournament.
