William D. DeFoor, 26, of Cincinnati, pleaded guilty in federal court to committing acts of physical violence against government officials or property and causing willful injury or damage to U.S. property, following an attack on Vice President JD Vance's home. The incident occurred around midnight on January 5, 2026, when U.S. Secret Service agents observed DeFoor running along the front fence of the protected residence. Vance and his family were not home, having recently returned to Washington, D.C., after a weekend visit. DeFoor crossed the driveway, where an unmarked federal law enforcement vehicle blocked access, and attempted to break the driver's side window with a hammer. Ignoring commands to stop, he then smashed panels of large historic glass windows, damaging approximately $28,000 worth of federally owned enhanced security hardware. DeFoor eventually dropped the hammer and tried to flee on foot but was apprehended by Secret Service agents and Cincinnati police officers.
