Olivier Maingain lashes out against a road layout in his municipality; MR responds with 'fake news' 07.07.2026

An intense political conflict has erupted in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert following the installation of concrete blocks by Bruxelles Mobilité to close an E40 bypass towards Roodebeeksans. This setup, established for a six-month trial to secure cyclists, has sparked the anger of Mayor Olivier Maingain. The latter accuses the regional government and the MR of imposing ideological constraints without the municipality's consent. In response, MR MP Amélie Pans denounced "fake news," claiming that the municipal college had given its approval as early as 2025 and that no parking spaces were removed. The debate is escalating over urban space management and the veracity of information provided by elected officials, illustrating the persistent tensions between Brussels' local and regional authorities.
