Ombudsman files plunder case against Marcoleta before Sandiganbayan 03.07.2026

The Office of the Ombudsman formally filed plunder and three other charges before the Sandiganbayan on Friday against Senator Rodante Marcoleta. The charges stem from his alleged failure to declare P75 million in campaign contributions received ahead of the 2025 senatorial elections in his Statement of Campaign Expenditures. Also facing charges for plunder and violation of Presidential Decree 46, which prohibits public officials from receiving gifts, are former congressman Michael Defensor and businessmen Joseph Varias Espiritu and Aristotle Baluyut Viray. The anti-graft court had previously granted a precautionary hold departure order against all four individuals in late May.
