Ombudsman Remulla urges Alan Peter Cayetano to compose himself amid Senate mess 13h ago

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla has urged Senator Alan Peter Cayetano to calm down amidst a leadership dispute within the Senate. The conflict escalated on June 3 when twelve senators elected Senator Sherwin Gatchalian as Senate President Pro Tempore, a move that allowed the minority bloc to declare him acting Senate President, citing a precedent from Avelino v. Cuenco. During this session, new committee chairpersons were appointed, including Senator Erwin Tulfo heading the Blue Ribbon Committee, replacing Pia Cayetano. Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, however, maintains he is the legitimate Senate President. The situation has led to a political division, with Cayetano's bloc proceeding with a hearing that the Gatchalian bloc dismissed as invalid.
