On bail home invader has sentence reduced by appeal court 21.07.2026

The Court of Appeal has reduced the prison sentence of Mihail Stingu, a 34-year-old man of no fixed abode, who was on bail for a spree of criminal damage offences when he committed a home invasion in Drogheda. The three-judge court found that the sentencing judge had erred in setting the headline sentence for the burglary charge at 14 years, the maximum available. Judge Paul Burns, delivering the appeal judgment, imposed a global sentence of 10 years and nine months, with the final six months suspended. This replaces the original post-mitigation sentence of 13 years with six months suspended, handed down by Judge Dara Hayes at the Circuit Court.
