« On travaille à faire évoluer les pratiques » : comment les agriculteurs peuvent agir pour la qualité de l’eau 20.02.2026

In the Vire bocage region, agricultural practices are directly impacting water quality, with the latest Vire Water Management and Development Plan (Sage) indicating degradation due to elevated levels of nitrates, phosphorus, and phytosanitary products. The Calvados Chamber of Agriculture is collaborating with local farmers to adapt these practices, aiming to find alternatives to herbicides and address issues like nitrogen leaks from fertilizers and livestock effluents, phosphorus runoff, and the decline of hedgerows. While acknowledging the agricultural contribution to these problems, the Chamber emphasizes the need for more precise analysis to pinpoint the exact proportion attributable to farming, while ensuring the economic viability of the farms remains intact.
