Eligible Canadians will receive a one-time top-up GST payment on June 5th, serving as a precursor to the new Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (CGEB) launching in July. The CGEB will replace the GST/HST credit, offering quarterly payments 25% higher than the current GST credit for five years to over 12 million Canadians to help with essential costs. The top-up payment is equivalent to 50% of the total annual GST credit for the July 2025 to June 2026 period, contingent on recipients being entitled to the January 2026 GST payment. Eligibility is based on filing 2024 taxes, meeting income thresholds, being at least 19, and being a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
