Ook in de rechtbank staan buren door bamboe recht tegenover elkaar 18.02.2026

A protracted dispute between two neighbors in Baarle-Nassau over overgrown bamboo has reached a judicial conclusion. Initially, a court ordered one neighbor, Lyzette, to install a root barrier along the property line to contain her bamboo, which was causing nuisance to her neighbor, Astrid. However, the installation proved difficult, leading Lyzette to remove all the bamboo. Astrid argued that Lyzette still owed fines for not installing the root barrier within the stipulated time, initiating a new legal battle. On Tuesday, the judge ruled in favor of Lyzette, stating that since all bamboo was removed, imposing fines for a root barrier would constitute an abuse of right, as no roots could cross the border. Despite the judge's ruling, Astrid and her lawyer left the courtroom immediately, leaving the possibility of further legal action for any remaining bamboo roots uncertain.
