Opens up to extended serving hours: – Exactly what I was worried about 07.07.2026

The Oslo Agency for Business Development is opening the possibility for hospitality venues to apply for extended serving hours during Norway's World Cup quarter-final against England. Director Åse Kjustad Eriksson states that Norway's sporting achievements provide grounds for such extensions, which could allow service until 5:00 AM. While the "World Cup regulation" already grants approximately 700 locations in the city center permission to remain open 24 hours, other applications are being considered as one-off events. However, the measure faces strong criticism from political parties such as the Red Party and SV, as well as from healthcare professionals. The police and GP Noham Ishaq express concern regarding the increased strain on emergency services and the healthcare system. While the police report a good atmosphere and safe conditions so far, politicians believe the focus should be on free community offerings rather than alcohol service to safeguard public health and include minors.
