Bellarmine Mugabe, son of former Zimbabwean despot Robert Mugabe, has been charged with attempted murder in South Africa. He appeared with a co-accused bodyguard at the Alexandra Magistrates' Court in Johannesburg. The 28-year-old was arrested Thursday in the exclusive Hyde Park district after his 23-year-old employee was shot twice in the back at his residence, collapsing at the gate and remaining in critical condition. Additional charges include illegal firearm possession and obstruction of justice, as police found shell casings but no weapon, and the entrance gate was closed. Mugabe's lawyer requested bail, but the court's decision is set for March 3rd, with both defendants remaining in pre-trial detention. His father, Robert Mugabe, governed Zimbabwe from 1980 until his 2017 ousting and died in 2019.
