Palestinian flag row erupts at Houghton Golf Club 10h ago

A dispute has arisen at Houghton Golf Club in Johannesburg after a regular visitor, Louis Seeco, claims he was ejected on April 17 for displaying a Palestinian flag on his car. Seeco stated he has been using the flag as a consistent symbol of solidarity since early 2024 and was only approached by management after completing his round. The club's general manager, James Loughnane, clarified that the club enforces a policy against all political and religious symbols to maintain neutrality and inclusivity for its diverse membership, emphasizing that such displays can be divisive and inflammatory. The African National Congress (ANC) has strongly condemned the club's decision, labeling it discriminatory and unconstitutional, and equating it to "apartheid-style gatekeeping."
