Pancreatic cancer: New drug extends lives but isn't a cure 08.06.2026

A new drug, daraxonrasib, has shown promise in extending the lives of pancreatic cancer patients, effectively doubling their survival time in a recent study compared to traditional chemotherapy. While not a cure, this treatment targets the RAS gene, which is mutated in approximately 90% of pancreatic cancers, leading to uncontrolled cell growth and tumor formation. Patients treated with daraxonrasib lived a median of 13.2 months, compared to 6.6 months for those on chemotherapy, and reported a better quality of life with fewer severe side effects. Despite this significant advancement, experts emphasize that daraxonrasib does not eradicate the disease, and pancreatic cancer remains a largely fatal diagnosis, especially when detected late.
