Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian announced on Thursday that his government has made a "conceptual" decision to nationalize the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA), the country's national electric utility owned by billionaire opposition leader Samvel Karapetian. The nationalization push began in June 2025, hours after Karapetian was arrested on charges of tax evasion, fraud, and money laundering, which he rejects as politically motivated. The government seized ENA in July 2025 and later revoked the operating license of its parent company, Tashir Group, Karapetian's Moscow-based conglomerate.
