Pashinyan links EAEU trade tensions to opposition actions 03.06.2026

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has accused opposition leaders, specifically Robert Kocharyan, Samvel Karapetyan, and Gagik Tsarukyan, of actively creating trade tensions for Armenia within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). During a campaign event in Martuni, Pashinyan alleged that these opposition forces are exploiting the EAEU issues during the election period by making contacts and taking steps to hinder the country. He also referenced a recent phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, indicating that discussions about resolving current issues will continue after the elections. This comes as Russian officials have urged Armenia to choose between the EAEU and the EU, with Putin suggesting a referendum, a proposal Pashinyan has deemed unnecessary as Armenia has not applied for EU membership. Meanwhile, Russia has imposed restrictions on several Armenian product imports.
