In Hilversum, Netherlands, a couple tragically died in April 2023 after consuming gin contaminated with amphetamine oil. The man first fell ill and passed away shortly after drinking from a bottle purchased at a local liquor store. Two weeks later, his wife experienced identical symptoms and also succumbed after drinking from the same bottle. Investigations revealed that four bottles from the same batch were contaminated with pure amphetamine, a substance used in synthetic drug production. These bottles were originally intended for a store in Seville, Spain, but were returned to the Netherlands and mistakenly placed on shelves in Hilversum. Dutch authorities are now focused on identifying the sender of the contaminated shipment and are seeking to contact two Spanish individuals who reportedly attempted to retrieve the bottles in Seville.
