Penang cops hunt alleged cable thieves after video showing motorcyclists chasing suspects shared online 02.06.2026

Penang police are searching for suspects involved in a telecommunications cable theft at Jalan Batu Uban, after a video of the incident circulated online. A Telekom Malaysia technician reported the theft to the Northeast District Police after seeing a viral video depicting the crime. Upon inspection, a 70-meter TM cable, valued at RM17,000, was found to have been cut and stolen. The suspects are believed to have fled in a dark-coloured Mazda 6 Hatchback, and police are investigating under Section 379 of the Penal Code and Section 235 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could aid in identifying and apprehending the culprits.
